Across the year Fajr in Tucson swings between 03:56 and 06:08 — today’s 05:17 is one point on that arc.
Sun Below the Horizon
At 05:17 in Tucson, the sun is exactly 15° below the eastern horizon — measurable, geometric, undeniable.
Latitude Meets Angle
At 32.2° latitude, a 15° solar depression produces today’s 67-minute dawn window in Tucson — different latitudes at the same angle yield very different windows.
Setting the Suhoor Alarm
In Tucson a suhoor alarm twenty-five minutes before 05:17 leaves time to eat, drink and reach the prayer without rushing.
On Time vs Late
Praying Fajr at 05:17 in Tucson carries a different weight than praying it before sunrise — both valid, only one optimal.
The Wudu Window
Waking thirty minutes before Fajr (05:17) gives you time for wudu, two rakat of sunnah and a calm transition into the obligatory prayer.
Egyptian General Authority
The Egyptian method places Fajr near 19.5°, producing earlier Fajr than 18° schemes — a small but visible shift on calendars in Tucson.
Sub-Polar Belt
Above 55° latitude, dawn distorts severely in summer; Tucson sits at 32.2°, with rules for high-latitude Fajr already factored into 05:17.
Why the Drift Compounds
A daily drift of about 1 minute(s) later compounds quickly — over a season it can move Fajr in Tucson by tens of minutes.
